I have been to Key West so many times I don’t even know where to start. For bachelorette parties, fantasy fest, cruise stopover, and just for fun. I have been to the Keys at many different times of the year as well. Summer is going to be the hottest time of the year, obviously. Most bars are outdoor and do not have air conditioning, therefore if you can stand the head come on down. The winter is nice, but prices for hotels will be a lot higher. If you imagine coming to Key West and laying on an exotic beach then think again. There is only one small section of the island with sand. Boating, diving, and partying are the main attractions here.
For a day cruise stopover a few hours might be all you need. Most of the cruises come by early, and people are usually starting to drink around 10-11am anyway. Besides sitting at a bar there are many places to shop and look around. Make sure to try the Key Lime pie if that is foreign to you. You can sample at a few places and decide which one you like best. Also try the smallest bar in the world, where they take a pineapple and blend it into a fantastic drink.
If you are looking for a more low key vacation I suggest staying at the Southernmost Hotel or the Sheraton Suites Key West which both have beach access. If you have some money to spend then stay at Sunset Key, which is an island of cottages. Once you get there, you will not want to come back to the main land. If you just want to check it out without staying, there is a boat that shuttles people back and forth. Just tell them that you are dining at the restaurant and they will bring you over.
- Do not plan on driving around anywhere because of limited parking
- If you plan on going out a lot stay on Duval Street
- Go to Blue Heaven or Sarabeths for breakfast
- Definitely try Key Lime Pie
