Exuma
This small island named Exuma has been popping up on tons of travel sites lately. The main reason Exuma is so popular is the swimming pigs. This is only one of the many things that makes this island so amazing though. I have been there twice in the last few years and each time had a different experience. The first time I went I stayed at the Four Seasons which is now Sandals. I went on a day excursion to different sand bars and snorkeling. The second time is when I saw the pigs.
You can fly into Exuma through Georgetown or Staniel Cay. Staniel is more for people that have yachts, BUT they do have amazing bungalows that are on the ocean. You need to book very far in advance to get one, and they are reasonably priced. If you are staying near Georgetown there are some great B&B’s to stay in. You definitely need to take the ferry over to Chat n’ Chill for the day to hang out. Also, there are small boats you can rent nearby to go sand bar hopping.
The Exuma Swimming Pigs
If you do not go on a boat of your own, then you will need to get on one of the day tours to see the Exuma Swimming Pigs. Remember, these are wild pigs. They did just have babies recently as well and are very protective. If you get in the water with the pigs you need to be careful. I had a friend who was bit by one and needed to go to the hospital and it was not a fun experience.
